The Power Of Doing One New Thing
The Power Of Doing One New Thing The Power Of Doing One New Thing Do one thing every day that scares you. â" Eleanor Roosevelt We all have our comfort zones. Places where we feel comfy and safe. And we donât like to step out. But, the only way to make those scary things less scary is to step up and do the things weâre afraid of. I speak from experience. Although most people wouldnât know it, Iâm an introvert. I used to be one of those who stood alone at networking events too shy to introduce myself. After years of being out there chatting with strangers is pretty easy. Iâm also not one to brag about myself which sometimes hampers me in business. Itâs something I work on daily Doing one thing that scares you every day, as Eleanor Roosevelt suggests, is a tall order. So Iâll make the challenge much easier. Just do one thing that scares you this week. Repeat each following week for one month. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Sign up for Twitter. Maybe, join a Twitter chat. Contact a recruiter who specializes in your industry. Schedule coffee or lunch with someone you havenât seen in a while. Ask three friends or family members who they know who can help you. Interact with one of your target employers online. Talk to one person while waiting in line at the store. Attend one networking event (particularly if you donât want to). Follow up with one employer you have interviewed with. Go out to a restaurant alone. While something thatâs related to your job search can create forward momentum, anything that takes you out of your comfort zone is great. If you dread the idea of sitting at a table for one in a restaurant then do that. It will increase your confidence. It might even give you the self-assurance to attend the next networking event alone. (Read why thatâs important.) The idea is simple, not easy. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary. But it gets easier every time. I promise.

Low-Cost Online Training to Add to Your Resume - Jobscan Blog
Low-Cost Online Training to Add to Your Resume - Jobscan BlogPosted on January 27, 2016July 14, 2018 by James Hu If youre finding it difficult to get interviews for the kind of role you want, dont worrythere are a lot of things you can do to position yourself for success.Your resume is a reflection of your professional experience and qualifications. You can add verbunden training, seminars, and other educational resources to your resume to bolster your work experience or make it easier to make the transition to a new career. Many of behauptung are available for little to no cost.Online training, especially in the form of free courses, doesnt carry the same weight as a degree or certification, but it can still help you to prove that you have a passion for your field, and are willing to learn and put in the hours necessary to get the job done. Its also a great way to flesh out a resume with little or no actual work experience. Starting a career with nothing more than your high school ed ucation on your resume can be limiting. Taking an erreichbar class that helps you understand the industry youre entering makes a big difference.Where can you go for this training? Is there a difference between online training providers? Finally, how do you include it on your resume?Which online training can you add to a resume?Lets start by addressing the obvious Stating that you watched a YouTube video about Web development will not improve your chances of getting an interview. However, there is online training from credible and recognized sources, and it doesnt have to break the bank. You can find a lot of great online training at a low cost from the followingLyndaCreativeLivePluralsightAlisonUdemyOSTrainingTreehouseKhan AcademyYou can also find excellent online classes and certification courses offered by colleges, universities, and even some corporations. Community colleges can be especially well priced. Some online courses, such as those provided by Khan Academy, are absolutely f ree and offer incredibly insightful and high-quality training. You can also list webinars and other online teaching events you have attended. For example, if you are applying for a job as a photographers assistant, having attended webinars hosted by a respected photographer doesnt hurt. How to add online training to your resumeOnline training and webinars shouldnt sit at the same level as your degree or formal certifications. Instead, consider creating a section for this information with a title such as Specialized Training, Additional Education, or Professional Development.Make sure you include the type of online training you completed, the name of the course or webinar, the name of the instructor and/or hosting organization, and the date you completed the training. Here is an example of this section as it would appear in your resumeSpecialized TrainingWebinarsBetter Direction, Better Movies, Steven Spielberg, 2014How to Make Great Movies, Pixar Animation, 2015CreativeLive CoursesMovi e Making and You, George Lucas, 2015Khan Academy CoursesIntro to hypertext markup language/CSS Making Webpages, 2015A hiring manager may ask you to provide some kind of documentation that you completed the courses and/or attended the webinars. This is a good sign. It means you are being considered seriously enough to warrant checking your credentials, and that they are willing to accept online training experience. This is where it can tricky. Most online courses provide a receipt when you purchase access, or a certificate of completion you can print out once you have finished the course.Free online training providers may track your progress and display your completed training in a public profile you can send along to the hiring manager. In any case, its important that you be honest about your online training. Signing up for a webinar does not mean you completed it, and while it might be tempting to add as many online courses as possible to your resume, you are best off listing only yo ur most relevant, recent, and completed training.Additional tipsIf you have online training that is more than a few years old, you should consider removing it from your resume. Online training has a much shorter shelf life than a college education. Timeliness is one of the key advantages taking these classes give you. Try to find online training provided by identifiable instructors who you can name in your resume. Receiving training from a nameless instructor doesnt carry the same weight as a recognized and respected leader in the industry. Attending a webinar hosted by Steven Spielberg means more than attending one hosted by a sophomore film student. This is one area where sites such as CreativeLive offer a distinct advantage. They provide multi-day courses led by top professionals in their respective industries.Today, you are no longer limited by your physical location. Education and training options continue to expand and improve, so if you cant get ajob interview, these training opportunities may be right for you.Facebook Commentswpdevar_comment_1 span,wpdevar_comment_1 iframewidth100% important
